Going to London for the day.

Is it cheaper to use my Pay as you go Oystercard than get a Travelcard, only will be in zones 1-2??

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

James

Yes, it will be cheaper. You cannot buy a paper Day Travelcard for zones 1&2 any more, you can only buy zones 1-6 now, which costs £12.

With Oyster (and contactless) the daily cap for zones 1&2 - that's the most you'll pay in one day - is £6.40.

Its always cheaper to use Oyster.

Oyster has a daily cap, so you will never be charged more than the equivalent daily travelcard should be.

It is not always cheaper for anyone to use Oyster as there are occasions when a paper ticket is cheaper.

But it is cheaper for the OP to use Oyster (or contactless of course) in the circumstances described.

I'm guessing you meant the latter, rather than the former?
  • If you don't already have an Oyster card then use contactless. It's so easy and fuss-free.

A daily travelcard has gone up to £12, so it's MUCH cheaper to use Oyster (daily capping is £6.40).
