Drawings on Self Assessment??

I'm just attempting my first self assessment tax return and am unsure of a couple of things, could someone advise please?

1. Should there be somewhere to input carers allowance? not sure if this is something that should be on a self assessment (tax credits take carers allowance into account).

2. I understanddrawings are not an allowable expenses, but in that section there is a box for drawings and the notes say to keep records of any money you take for own personal use from your business cash.

The situation is i'm a self employed cleaner working a few hours a week. The cash I receive goes into a pot at home and is spent on things like after school clubs for the kids, school trips, corner shop groceries if we run out of bread / milk etc, just odds and ends really, but it soon all goes!

So do I put my net profit figure into the drawings box, I just thought it may seem a bit odd that all the profits are spent but that's how it is???

Thanks in advance!

Carer's Allowance is taxable and you will find you will be asked for it if you tick yes to the third question on page 2 of 3 of Tailor your return.
I think you are being prudent by only spending your net profit but which section are you talking about. From what you describe I don't think the tax return requires you to enter drawings.
The only thing that is constant is change.

Thanks, I've had another look and found the section for the carers allowance but to get to it it asks for pension payment details first which is nil as i do t get a pension, but if I put nil it produces an error page and won't let me proceed further, how do I get past this?

I'll have another look at the drawings, I may be getting confused with my husbands tax return who has used the detailed expenses whereas I have used single amount.

    Thanks

In the pension box are you entering 0? It may be that you need to just leave it blank, I came across this type of thing when I was entering my mum's return, it does show an error message but it's easily overlooked.

Yes I did enter 0. I'll try again leaving it blank. I noticed on my husbands tax return that his accountant does, in some boxes that are irrelevant to my husband, the accountant has entered 1. I wonder if this is how they get over these problems
