What qualifications are the best to look for in an accountant if you want him to give advice on how to approach various methods of rental property ownership in a non married partnership, the tax advantages if they did marry , who should the rent be paid to , the optimum length of time to keep the rental etc to minimize CGT etc. Thanks

Basic stuff for any qualified accountant in practice. Chartered, chartered certified or chartered tax advisor should all be fine.0

They must be members of the relevant "chartered" or "chartered certified" or "chartered tax advisor" professional body to be allowed to use those terms which are protected by law/regulation. To become a member of those bodies (and others), they need to have passed professional exams, they must have a certain number of years of relevant supervised experienced, they must have professional indemnity insurance, and they must undertake continuing professional development/education. More information about each type of "chartered" qualification is available from the relevant bodies' website, which also has a list of practising members for you to check.
On the contrary, anyone can call themselves an "accountant" whether or not they have any experience or qualifications. The word "accountant" isn't protected in any way, so beware.0 -
