Time to stop the fret over the debt!

Options
Well we did a wee intro/ hello post on the main page but thought we'd start our debt free diary.

We're a newly (1yr) married couple, we are both blessed to be in reasonably paid jobs but between house renovations/ cars and admittedly frivolity we find ourself £13844 in debt.

We don't have any children yet and we want to clear as much debt as possible before we have them!

It's going to be difficult as our house still needs a lot of work and we'll need to buy stuff to complete it but we are determined and in it together.

We're forcing ourselves hopefully into accountability by taking to YouTube, Twitter and forums and being as open and honest as possible with our debt.

We've enjoyed reading other people's successes and want to do it too!

Good luck with it all :)

Wish I would have been debt free before children but I console myself with the fact that I am now finally doing something!

  • Thanks!

Today I am pleased to say that we paid of £282 of our debt. That's an extra payment to our Halifax and Barclaycard.

We're lucky that my husband can get overtime at his work which is helping us to clear some of the debt. I'm hoping to start bringing in money from my second job (startup business which is why I'm making nothing so far!)

We get paid mid month and end of the month so today was our 2nd payday. we're getting better with our budget so actually think that we've accounted for everything this month!

  • So it's Sunday which meant we made our new YouTube video with our debt update. It was good because we based it on our numbers from the start of our month (which is actually the middle of the month) and we've made some improvements already. I've listed our debt below as I had mixed myself up when originally posting...

On a Halifax CC we have £1696.29
    On a Barclaycard £2622.96
Lastly our loan which is 10k on the dot
So overall our debt is £14367.56

A lot of money! We've done well this week, there's been no unexpected costs and we managed to pay off some of the debt. I'm becoming a bit obsessed as I cannot wait till we've paid the money off!!
