Also, make sure you change all your income details to your new bank account. So that it gets paid in there.

  • Thanks KB. I've done 3 of my pension providers. I've still got to do 2 but got paid today from them so will do them tomorrow. By the way well done, you must be over the moon being debt free. I did post but now can't find it saying it must feel like Christmas and birthdays all together. Really happy for you x

Thanks TTSE, Thanks for the congratulations. I don't think I would have got through it without the people on the DMP support thread.

You too will get through this, remember to take a step back every now and then to pat yourself on the back for doing something about debt.

The first few months can be up and down, but once you get to that point where everything is running smoothly, you'll be great.

Did you use template letters to write to your creditors?

Just a thought - another thing you could add on your budget is travel costs to help with the vets bills.

I took the step of buying a paper diary to add up everyday spending, having to write it down made me think about what I was buying, and then I started to leave my bank cards at home, that way I cut out my habit of spending up to £15 each morning in the supermarket, this has helped with me getting here.

    Good luck xx

  • Hi KB

Yes I used a template letter from national debtline saying I was entering a DMP and asking for 30 days grace and to freeze interest and any charges although from reading on here I doubt that will happen!

Good idea about travel costs. I still haven't received pack from Stepchange, can I add that sort of thing even though I filled out the expenses sheet thingy when I wanted to find out what I could do?

Yes. I think the expenses form you first fill in is just to let you have an idea.

Step change will go through your budget when you set up with them.

As someone else said, if you don't use the extra that you put on the budget for emergencies, pay extra off your dmp. That's what I did with mine.
