Cheap vacuum storage solution?

I'm set to move to a smaller flat over the next few weeks. I've lots of stuff - especially books which aren't going to fit & will have to go into store. There's a garage available so I'm wondering if any MSE can share their experience and direct me to a cost-effective way of vacuum storing them to prevent climate damage?

The bags I've seen seem to be for clothes and are also about £10 each. There must be a cheaper solution?

TIA for any suggestions.
I do hope you're telling the truth?

I have seen them in Poundland, or try asking on freecycle.

i bought 6 large vaccunm bags from ebay for £16 inc p&p. they were the biggest i could find and could fit sleeping bags and a pillow in one and a king size winter duvet in another, needed to tidy up the airing cupboard.

JML are quite good (though a bit pricey), but mine have remained vacuum sealed after 4 months. The Asda's-own version I bought in their last sale (£1.50 each) all leak air so the contents don't store flat. They're ok for storing things away from damp etc, but are no better than bin liners.

    Poundland ones are useless too.
Have tried 3 different ones & they all leak.
Am about to try the JML ones, but see Argos do a reasonable priced set. Has anyone tried these???

If they are just for temporary use, use good quality dustbin bags, tie them quickly and very tightly after vacuaming out the air.;)
  • Do not try Lidl ones - not one of mine retained a vacuum for any length of time. I might have been unlucky, but all of them from two packs?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have tried both Argos and Poundland ones.... they are equal quality in terms of keeping the vacuum seal IMO, and the Poundland ones are MUCH cheaper!
