I imagine it all depends on your company policy, what does it say in your contract?0

if it was a bank holiday , and you did not need to go to work , why did you tell them you were ill?0

I can't imagine you would get the day in lieu as you didn't work it. Where I recently worked that was so.0

I presume that mercedes had been scheduled to work that day, but was ill. Legally bank holidays are no different from any other day, so assuming that she gets only the statutory minimum of holidays she does need to be given her holiday still in the form of a day in lieu. This is no different from being ill any other working day - your employer can't deduct it from your holidays without your permission.
The pay will depend on your company - for instance if you only get statutory sick pay then you couldn't expect time and a half. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I think not, if you didn't work it, you won't get paid for it.0

So you normally work and get paid (double).
Because you work (and it would otherwise be counted as part of your annual leave entitlement), you get a paid day off at another time to compensate.
As you didn't work, of course you don't get paid for working it. But I don't think that was what you were asking. I think you were wondering about the actual day in lieu. As the day wasn't worked because you were ill, it doesn't have to count as a holiday and you can still have a paid day off at another time if that is what you want. That day off would, of course, be at your normal rate of pay. So if you want to be paid for the bank holiday (single rate) when you were sick, then you would have to forgo your other day's holiday.
If you were unfit for just the one day, you wouldn't qualify for SSP (unless it linked with another sickness absence). Do you have a contractual sick pay scheme which does pay for the first day of absence?0 -

A small point regarding SSP.
As you say no SSP for one day of sickness but this cannot link to any other sickness. For sickness to link you need a PIW which is four consecutive days of sickness during which no work is done. Only PIWs can link. anything less than those four days is ignored for SSP purposes.0 -

Off sick on a bank holiday do I still get a day in lieu ?
I had an operation a week ago. I have a doctor's certificate which covers the Easter Bank holiday.
I usually do not work on bank holidays(company pays all of them part of my contract).
What will happen next? I am I entitle to get 2 days in lieu(if these 2 days are counted as sick days) ?0
