Car finance advice odd financial situation

Neoshoegal I'm not trying to be patronising I'm just stating facts and my opinion. I live in Devon so not the best roads and I hardly ever get caught in any traffic. I definetly wouldn't achieve those MPG stuck in any traffic. But then any car even new ones are less economical in slow moving traffic.
If I was in your situation and it was gonna cost me £750 to get a new clutch. I would call the AA get them to tow me home and get a clutch fitted at somewhere I know. The money I would save would be worth the hassle of having to go home then drive back if necessary.
I don't know about anyone else but I'm definitely not suggesting he does not deserve a new car. I'm saying that I wouldn't get one and giving reasons why. I personally could afford to get a brand new car quite easily like a lot of people can. But I wouldn't do that because I think it's a waste of money and I wouldn't like anyone to think that they have to spend a large amount on a car when they don't need too.
Also you mentioned that new cars are more environmentally friendly. This isn't the case it's a lot better to keep an old car running than all the resources it takes to make a new car. That's why the government stopped the scrappage scheme.
Obviously it's nice to own and drive a new car and I regularly drive new cars for work and they get new ones every 6 months. But I'm still happy with my car, it has leather seats and is nice to drive, I've fitted a touchscreen stereo with gps and reversing camera. It has cruise control, automatic wipers, traction control etc. So it has more features than alot of new cars but is a fraction of the price and the only difference is that it's older so will need parts replacing as they wear out. But this still costs a fraction of what any monthly payment for a new car is.
So from my experience I think it's crazy to get a new car especially when you already owe money and this is advice I would give anyone in the same situation.0 -
People in debt should keep spending and shouldn't be denied the good things in life.
