Moorcroft & unknown O2 debt

Not sure where to go with this.
My wife has received a letter from Moorcroft debt recovery limited stating that they have been instructed by TELEFONICA O2 (UK) LIMITED to collect her overall debt.
First things first she has never been with 02!
The letter looks shady and I have read that these people are Cowboys. No contact has been made with them and nor will it be.
I will be contacting 02 tomorrow to find out if such debt exists.
Has anybody seen this before or had any dealings with this company?

Could be a mis-trace against her name.
Moorcroft are commonly referred to as Moroncroft, for very good reason, so yes we have heard of them.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

What is the way forward with this?
Surely ignoring it is only going to escalate the issue. I do not intent to make contact with them as I have read what they are all about. This is certainly not a legit debt that they are claiming is owed.0 -
1st get confirmation from O2 on whether the debt is valid and hers.
2nd check credit files to make sure there is not default or adverse entries on their files from this. If there are, then it will need sorted through someone in some way to get rid of them.
Once we know where you are on both those scores we can go from there.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

O2 say there is an account in her name but won't speak to me about it. She is going to ring them when she gets home but it looks like an account has been fraudulently created in her maiden name and our address.0

If that is the case, then you would need to report via http://actionfraud.police.uk/ to get a crime number to quote to O2 and Moroncroft.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks will keep that in mind once she has clarified with O2 when/where the account was set up etc....0

if it was her address, hasn't she had statements?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

The "victim" is the one who suffered the loss.
Dont let them shovel it on her, do not give them her date of birth or signature.
If they get a DOB they will put it on her credit file.
If it is not on yet, Use the miss trace complaint form

It's with the O2 fraud team now, seems we may have suffered a bout of ID theft.0

Hopefully O2 will act to sort it then, but you can emphasise that if they don't then you will be taking the case to....
