I should point out that at one point I took my parents on a touristy open top bus tour of Belfast and the tour guide said 'there is the village area, but it is far too dangerous for our bus down there'.
    Very funny.

We call that the bottom of the Ravenhill Road, the top is near Rosetta. Well everyone I know does.

So the area you are looking at, think Woodstock Road so very red, white and blue. I know someone offered a house down there and refused as her parents had a mixed marriage(in the old fashioned sense), and she was frighten to go to that area. Others warned her about that particular area and not to even think about. She and her partner ended up renting privately and it cost them a lot more, but they considered now safe and friendly they wanted the area they lived in to be.

To be totally honest, cheap = if not from that area originally not welcomed or sub standard housing.

Think a lot of people are worried about moving to the Woodstock Road because of its closeness to the Short Strand which is so very green, white and gold.;)

Used to live there. Loved it. Always something interesting happening. Not necessarily good, but always interesting.

I bought my first house there. I sold it pretty sharpish after being witness to an attempted murder  WhereI live now is not 'interesting' but at least my house has never been subject to a police cordon and forensic examination.

There may well have been the occasional attempted murder in other places over the years.
How's the community spirit where you live now? My experience of the more upscale areas is that nobody has any interest in their neighbours.

True... but a lot of people like it that way.......

sometimes if you get "too friendly" with your neighbours, one party usually tend to "take liberties" down the line or do things that annoy you and you then feel you can't say anything for fear of upsetting them...

    Usually silly things like
Parking outside their house like the cars been abandoned meaning one car's taking up two spaces,
Not cutting their hedges and making the street look messy,
constantly poping round to "borrow" stuff you then have to go back looking for as they have never returned it.....
    etc. etc. etc. :rotfl:

    constantly poping round :

Well there's one thing you never see in the village - no poping here.

Much better than it was in the Village, surprisingly. We have an active little residents group and a couple of street parties during the year, usually summer BBQ and Christmas festivities.
