Car dealer east Antrim

Could anyone kindly recommend a 2nd hand car dealer in Carrick, N'abbey, Larne, Ballyclare etc who sells cars less than £2000? We're looking for a wee first car for 17yr old son, low insurance group as it'll likely cost a fortune to insure him.
If anyone can also recommend an insurer I'd be also grateful. This is all a new to us and don't know who to go to or avoid.
Thank you very much :A

Just found this place recently, know a few people who have bought from him. Plenty of stock of cheaper cars - which are hard to find elsewhere. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't touch MH Motors with a barge pole, sorry. Seen how they fix cars up and then describe them as immaculateNorn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

MH motors has a poor reputation. I've never bought from him but have seen plenty of rough cars in his yard. Google them and there are plenty of horror stories. He has loads of stock, so there are bound to be a few good cars in amongst them.
Charles Hurst stuff at this end of the market isn't great in my experience but the car in the link above might be worth a look.
Getting a decent car for £2000 isn't easy nowadays - I know, I've tried! At that end of the market you're more likely to get a good deal from a private seller (look for someone really selling their old car, not just a trader posing as a private punter, as there are loads of them about). Obviously you have no comeback, so take a friend who's clued up on cars along with you, check all the paperwork etc. But for a legit dealer to fulfil his legal obligations, pay his taxes, prepare the car, advertise it and try to earn a living, there's not much left out of £2000 for buying decent stock.0 -
If you want a decent car that'll give you no problems on £2000, good luck...... Cars at that money will always have something wrong with them. Not always major I would say but probably just niggley things like Air Con not working properly or a window winding handle/switch or the likes not right. It's inevitable that cars at this sort of money will have some issues but as long as they aren't major like engine, gearbox, etc, then I wouldn't worry. Will give your son something to tinker with... A learning experience...0

At your price range you would be better off getting a car privately. Buying from a dealer at £2k doesn't give you any extra guarantees. look for a full service history and try and find a low milage car with only a couple of owners. If you want a warranty you can buy an aftermarket one. Eg warranty direct.0

Not a dealer but a friend has a wee VW Polo for sale 120K on the clock, MOT until Nov early 2000's from memory £750 or so.Dave0

Thanks for all your advice, the search is still ongoing. I have passed all this information onto my husband and son who have promptly upped their budget, it seems I was a little optimistic!
Sorry for late reply, I had awful time trying to get logged in, between old site and new site, loss of password and locking myself out!0
