Are husband and Wife separate for tax purposes

If I earn £40k and my wife starts a new job earning £10k, do either of us pay more tax?

The standard Personal Allowance is £10,600, which is the amount of income you don’t have to pay tax on.0

Could be worth looking into transferring some tax allowance to reduce your tax.
