Are husband and Wife separate for tax purposes

If I earn £40k and my wife starts a new job earning £10k, do either of us pay more tax?

The standard Personal Allowance is £10,600, which is the amount of income you don’t have to pay tax on.

If that is her only job, then no.
She might, however, have tax deducted until she has sorted out her code number with HMRC.

The only thing that is constant is change.

Could be worth looking into transferring some tax allowance to reduce your tax.
