Hi,
I would like to start paying voluntary class 3 ni contributions. I have read the guidelines for online banking. My confusion is with regard to the reference number. I have not alerted HMRC that I would like to start paying these contributions, must I do so? If not what can I use as a reference number?
Thanks

DD might be easiest?
"To set up monthly payments, download and send the Direct Debit form to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The address is on the form.
HMRC will write within 21 days to confirm your Direct Debit is set up.
Payments appear on your statement as ‘HMRC NI-DD’.
Your debits usually start in May. If you’re setting up the Direct Debit after May and you need to pay arrears, you can do this through your first payment."0 -
I have filled in the forms, my last query is where they ask from what date do you wish to start paying voluntary NI contributions? Could I theoretically say 01/08/2014?0
