Help - I've got a virus!

Have been denied access to my online banking account today, phoned Lloyds and it appears someone from Sweden has been trying to access my account.....
Advised to run Kaspersky virus scanner, which i'm currently doing and have so far found 19 viruses, 101 infected objects and it's only gone through 73% of files on comp!
Have installed Firefox but from reading some other posts on here there are so many different softwares to download and install I just haven't got a clue.
I know where the on/off button is and that's about it, i'm a complete technophobe in desperate need of help.
What do I need to download to protect my computer and how do I get rid of the viruses that are already on here?

If you can still download and install programs, you can install the full version of Kaspersky's AntiVirus 7 from their website; http://www.kaspersky.com/anti-virus_trial
You'll get a thirty day evaluation period free of charge.
You can use that to actually remove the viruses, other than to simply detect them.0 -
You need to get some basic tools, to clean out your PC.
Firstly make sure your Kaspersky is up to date .. out of date definitions are useless.
Once you've scanned with that go and download Spybot Search and Destroy, if you google you will find plenty of download links.
Now once you've downloaded and installed that, turn off your modem or disconnect your internet connection while you fix this.
Once your disconnected search with Kaspersky again, and remove anything it finds.
Then run a scan using Spybot Search and Destroy, this program is very self explanitary and will clean what it finds.
Once they are both finished go into control panel and make sure Windows Firewall is enabled.
Reboot your PC and run a quick scan again just to make sure everything is removed.. depending on exactly what your infected with, some of these things can be very persistant!
Let us know how you get on.0 -
On a slightly different note - if someone has tried to access your online bank it may be worth running a credit check on yourself via experion or equifax.
ID theft is big business and if they have obtained these details they can do all sorts. Hopefully it was just an attempt online.

DO NOT USE GOOGLE to find Spybot Search & Destroy. Use the following link instead. http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html
I recently read an article that said Google were placing paid advert links at the top of search results! Not usually a problem. However, when you search for an anti-spyware/adware tool, some of these paid links are for rogue applications that will scan your computer and tell you that you need to purchase their product, which is naff.
Check it out. Put Spybot Search and Destroy into google, and you will see spywarebot.com, spybot.org and spybot.net as the advert links. Do not use them. Use the link I gave and download the pukka product for free.0 -
I always used to say it was dangerous when banks first introduced online banking, its just too easy to be infiltrated. Aside from the virus and spyware issue, should anyone use online banking please remember that your details will be embedded onto your Hard Drive, even a format wont get rid of such information, its there for the duration of the HD's existance. Should you ever replace a HD or get rid of an old pc, the safest method is to literally destroy your old HD with a hammer.
I sincerely hope you have not suffered any losses as a result and have iradicated the virus in question.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Well pointed out, I'd never really noticed that as I just ignore the ad's.. I guess it could catch out the unsuspecting!0 -
Thanks to you all for your help.
Have installed netguard security which has identified a virus 'W32/Goldun.genl@dr'
Have redone spybot and it couldn't find any viruses but when I used www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner for the second time it still detected 3 viruses and 3 infected objects - much better than the original 19 viruses and 101 infected objects, but still 3 viruses that netguard and spybot are no longer detecting but kaspersky is.
What should I do next?0 -
I've already told you.
Download it at first. You may need to uninstall Netguard in order to install Kaspersky. Install Kaspersky, update the definitions and then run a full scan.
If you feel up to it, you can download and install their full security package instead; http://www.kaspersky.com/internet_security_trial0 -
Have a look here at this http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/
This product is free and is very good at trojan removal.
I have not heard to much about netguard so Donnie does have a point about installing a good anti virus/malware product0
