Debenhams Gift cards don't work online

I was given Debenhams Gift cards for my birthday and tried to use them online this evening. I tried many times but received a message saying the card was invalid. The first time I called customer services who told me to try again in one hour as the system thought I had already used them. Three hours later I tried again and the customer service staff member told me I could not use a gift card to buy concession products (?!) – not finding any evidence of this in the terms and conditions I called a third time when a more helpful staff member tried to put the order through but received the same error message. Looking at old threads this was happening 3-4 years ago on Debenhams online - we live 30 miles from nearest Debenhams - certainly can't be bothered to drive to one specially for £30 !
