What does it actually matter how much money is in your bank today? Surely what is more relevant is how much is in there the night before your next pay goes in. Now THAT I could tell you to the penny (always supposing I spend all my budgets of course).
Interesting that everyone's pointing out the limitations of that particular measure of financial acumen. Possibly not terribly important, though. (Perhaps most people are reading the FT article, rather than the ONS paper itself?)
I thought the most relevant measure for the context of this particular discussion board was the planning-ahead measure, one of the lowest values overall. Accumulating retirement income involves tremendous ability to plan ahead, and few people seem able to do this.
