A wobbly moment :(

I have spent all day being stupid checking my internet banking site, the mortgage comes out tomorrow and I am about £50 short. Its not a budgetting issue and its the first time I have had that sickening financial s*** feeling in a year - how did I cope before!

I have rung the bank and they have increased my overdraft to £50 till Friday so mortgage will be paid. So I am ok about that what I am really worrying about is why the account is so far down.

In the past week I have posted off several cheques (its an internet bank account thats how I bank) one for £50 from Yougov, one for about £40 refund from CSMA and £229 expenses from Youth Club none of them have showed up - thats why I keep checking the account that is an awful lot of money to loose.

Common sense side of me says it could be the effects of postal strike backlog or something, unrational side says what if teh post box was vandalised I didn't note cheque numbers down or anything just posted them off as I have a thousand times before.

Sorry to bother you all I know a lot of you have more pressing problems this one is just really nagging at me and worrying, I want my cheques to appear!

have you tried calling your bank? They may have them ready for processing.

    I hope they turn up.

I mentioned it when I rang to get a £50 overdraft all they said was there was no backlog and to get in contact with companies to see if they have been cashed. Thing is its a bit too early to bother companies for my silly panicking.

I suppose I am being OTT today because I can't speak to hubby about it he is training all day, then I have to rush out to hospital to visit ex and that leaves me with another night wondering.

    I should get a grip.

    But thanks :)

it's easy to panic about these things though. Leave it a couple of days and if they haven't cleared then, give the companies a call.

I know there is still a bit of a snail-mail thing going on...maybe that's where they are.

Maybe call your local sorting office - did you post them all at the same post-box?

I did I posted them outside our local village shop, I suppose I could call in and ask the post woman if she knows of any problems with vandalism etc - thanks for that idea at least its more pro active than being the melon I am now :(

I posted a 15 quid cheque that I had from selling an old phone at the start of last week

On thursday or friday last week, i sent the cheque from the inland revenue.

Amazingly they have both been deposited today? I dont get why!

I am pretty sure I will be checking most the night lol!

Hubbies Yorkshire bank is like that and sometimes things disappear for a couple of days and reappear. But this is Cahoot and I haven't noticed that before but in saying that there has never been a time when I had been waiting for so many things to drop in the bloomin account!

    Thanks for that thought!
  • Can you remember exactly what day you posted them? On the Royal Mail website it gives the latest info on industrial action so you could look and see if your area is affected. Another time I'm sure you will write down the cheque numbers but it is easy to be wise after the event. Definitely check with the issurers of the cheques to see if they have been cashed if they don't show up soon. Could you send them recorded delivery another time? I hope they turn up!

    Hi

maybe next time you could pay in via the post office which is what i do for my co-op account, you fill in the paying in slip and the envelope and they record that they've received it that way you will know for sure that its gone off. It doesn't help with your worries now but it would prevent any future worry.
