Experienced Gamers,
I want some suggestion in purchasing a gaming console. My husband has had some health short comes and they used Wii in hospital to encourage his movements and balance. He is now almost normal. He seems to be interested in Wii to have some family fun.
Since we didnt used or own any of the other console in market , thought to ask for suggestion. Our family is very young ( 2 year tod + new one due) so need to purchase opt one for all members of the family. please give your suggestion.
Thanks

Wii should be available real cheap & with a plentiful supply of cheap games as well - so long as you're not looking for the first party Nintendo "big" titles such as Mario, Zelda etc.
There's nothing really out for PS4/XB1 for the youngsters yet, maybe once they hit school age that'd be a better time but at this point in time it's way beyond their range. Further to that at the prices they are it's also an expensive toy to have kicking around youngsters, bear that in mind when purchasing as well.
Could be worthwhile getting maybe an Xbox 360 or a PS3 as they too will have plentiful supply of games & could in theory still grow with the children. Good thing is the prices not only for games but for the machines too is starting to trend down as they're being superceded by the PS4/XB1. They'll also provide a more "grown up" range for your husband & yourself to get into as well as both having games which will encourage the youngsters imagination. (Minecraft!)
I would however strongly urge you to avoid the Wii U - it has some good games, but it suffers terribly from a lack thereof & games makers are abandoning it. It'd be a disasterous decision to buy one of them right now unless you can get it extremely cheaply as a secondary option.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
Family = Wii
Teens = Xbox
Dedicated console gamer = PS4

Hi OP,
You can pick up a pre-owned Wii for around £10-£20 at Game. Games are pretty cheap, and will depend on what you want it for. I use Wii Sports Resort as part of my physio and rehab.0 -
Ignore anyone who would tell you one console is vastly superior than the other, its a bit like football teams.
I would agree that buying a PS4 or Xbox1 might be a bit of a waste, whenever new consoles come out it can take a while before the catalogue of games starts coming through.
I have in the past had a wii, ps1, ps2, xbox, xbox 360, and am currently trying to upgrade a gaming rig (pc).
For the kids I still prefer the wii, but it leaves a lot to be desired for actual gameplay. Both the xbox 360 and playstation can use a motion capture system that mimics the wii.
I have only used the xbox version, but found it to be great with kids (especially the kinectamals game).0 -
If it's for young kids then the Wii is the way to go, you can pick them up dirt cheap now. Don't buy a WiiU though, they're a complete flop and Nintendo are already in the process of developing a new console to replace them so the games catalogue is going to dry up.
If it's for mobility/fitness type applications then again a Wii is the way to go with an X-Box one as an alternative(you will need to get the Kinect add on though).
For pure gaming it's a coin toss between the PS4 or X-Box One. PS4 has the edge at the moment but there's not much separating them.0 -

Thanks all. Which version of wii to buy? 2D/3DS/3DS XL. I remember playing Mario cart when I was young. Perhaps I would love to play that game. For my two year old, perhaps disney game will apply.
how about below one? Phoned the lady. She says its brand new but didnt know what version it was.

You're mixing up Wii & DS there. The DS is a handheld machine with virtually no fitness or movement capability & that which there is has not been utilised anywhere near to the stage it's viable for that.
The advert you posted is for the Wii, there are only two "versions" of that, the regular one which you posted & the mini one. The regular one is the wiser option to go for, they come in different colours but nothing which will have a major bearing on it's use. My only concern with that console in the advert is the covers on the controllers, if they're just covers you're alright, if they're battery packs you should ensure they have the charging cable too. Bog standard warning though, as it's a private sale if it doesn't work after a couple of weeks you have zero comeback - with Game while you may pay more you'll get a guarantee with it.
You can get Mario Kart for the Wii alongside a bunch of Disney games but they will all retain a fairly high value because of what they are.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
Finally,
I think below ad might help me.
