100,000 use Help to Buy schemes

Help to Buy reaches an important milestone. More than 100,000 happy homeowners thanks to HTB. :beer:

For those who still think HTB contributes to HPI:
Help to Buy has in the past been accused of helping to pump up house prices.
But the average price of homes bought under Help to Buy is £213,954, which is well below the average UK house price of £271,000, the Government said.
And increased supply also.
Stewart Baseley, executive chairman of the Home Builders Federation said: "Help to Buy continues to drive demand for new homes, and its extension to 2020 is a huge boost. That demand is being met by the house building industry which is increasing output at the highest rate for decades."
Good news.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

    Yup. Create monopolies. Create restrictive planning. Enable land banking. Socialise the costs. ???. Profit.

    Just a question - how does your quote, in any way counter that argument?

    All it states is that the average house price of those using HTB is lower than the average price across the country. How on earth do you come to the conclusion that HTB isn't inflationary based on that?

    As for your second point on supply, this has been done to death and the concensus right across the spectrum (bar the government and house builders) is that the extra supply it's created has no where near matched the extra demand.

    You could have an 1 extra house built and it would still count as extra supply. The key isn't the statement, it's the figures.

    Yes - will the government also provide people with interest free loans for 20% of the cost of their new cars/plasma TVs/round the world trips for 5 years?

    Why just assistance for housing developers?

    i feel we are storing major problems as once people have to start paying interest in 5 yrs and pay the full amount back in 10 years we may see major issues

    "the house building industry which is increasing output at the highest rate for decades"

    interpretation:

    (1) it's a plain lie;
    (2) it's talking about the rate of change, e.g. output's approximately 2 houses p.a. built, but given that last year there was approximately 1 house built that's a doubling, we've not seen a doubling in decades;
    (3) anything else?
    FACT.

    Particularly after seeing Watchdog and the 'quality' homes Persimmon (the UK's largest house builder) are churning out.

    There is no interest to pay in year 5 and there is certainly no need to pay back the full amount in 10 years.
    Why are you peddling this nonsense?
