Taxed on expenses

Hi not sure if I am posting this in the right place so apologies if it's wrong.

My colleagues and I have been relocated for our jobs, we have been told that we can claim our travel expenses (ie public transport costs and daily payment for cars) for the next three years. However we are going to be taxed on this.

Is this right and if so are we able to claim the tax back for it?? If so how??

Many thanks

I think to qualify for any tax relief you would be needing to move home for it to form part of the relocation exemptions.

As this is commuter payment - and thus not a tax free expense - you will be taxed on it at your usual rates. It will be added to your salary and PAYE on it. Only business mileage ( from work to another work place is business mileage and paid tax free to 45p for first 10,000 miles )
