Baby Born or Baby Annabell?

Can any mum's to little girls help me?

Having 2 boys I'm not really up on girls dolls but I'm wanting to buy my niece a doll for her first birthday, I've seen 2 'my first' - Baby Annabell and Baby Born in Argos, my question is which is the most popular/considered the best?

I remember when I was little, the doll to have was tiny tears - which I notice is still availabe! lol

Any comments appreciated!

I wouldn't buy Baby Annabell for a 1 year old. The doll is an electronic doll and is made to be realistic. It has to be treated like a real baby. If it isn't fed it cries like a real baby and can be quite irritating if it isn't treated "properly". It has to be cuddled, fed and put down to rest as appropriate. It is also quite heavy for a 1 year old.
DD and her friends had them when they were about 7 years old.
I don't know about Baby Born except to say that a couple of DD's 8 year old friends still play with them.

I'd get the baby annabell, you can just have the batteries out.

Looks like a nicer baby and isn't as heavy as baby bjorn (or as scary looking either!)

Thanks Christmasshopper - as the Baby Annabell I've seen is the 'my first' version I don't think it's as realistic as the regular ones. In fact I don't even think it has a battery.

Just wondering though if you can buy other clothes and stuff for this one, due to the fact it's smaller (36cm) than the regular one.

i brought both my girls my first baby annabell for their 1st birthdays and they both love her, she us just thr right size for them and has a soft tummy (baby borns is hard)

not sure about the clothes thing though

I bought this for my niece who is 2 and she loves her. She is the perfect size, and yes you can buy extra clothes and things. Woolworths and toysrus do them.
"My first" Annabell is softer than "my first" Baby Born !

I would definitely go with Baby Annabell. I found Baby Born to be too heavy and for children too difficult to use the various functions. Oh and forgot to mention, if you feed baby born her special food and dont rinse her through properly she will go mouldy inside! (honest! it stated this on the instruction leaflet!)

Thanks to you all, I'm tempted to go with Baby Annabell but the fact you can bath Baby Born is quite good.

My daughter got given Baby Chou Chou when she was one - I think zapf make it. She loved it then and loves it now at 7 - even though she now also has a baby annabel, it is often Baby chou chou that she plays with - got to admit it's a nice doll - smaller than the Baby Annabels but perfect for a one year old..and older!

As a dad to two monsters who do passing impressions of being girls I'd recommend you go for Baby Born. We have both Borns and Annabels. Initially we bought Born for monster #1 and Annabel for monster #2. All went swimmingly for a nano-second until those Baby Born baths appeared on TV and Annabel was swiftly discarded. So much friction and arguments ensued that we gave in and bought a 2nd Born for monster #2.

Baby Borns clothing and accessories are more readily available in shops and there is simply more Baby Born stuff than Annabel stuff.

The fact that you can bath Born is the major plus. All little girls will want to bath their dolls and Annabel is part fabric so you can't do so. Born is heavy but the rigidity is a boon as you don't get asked to dress Born as often as Annabel because they can fit clothes easier onto Born. Born also sits more upright and falls over less.

And I can't believe I've been reduced to discussing dollies on a forum.... rugby anyone?!

One thing I have noticed is the amount of accessories etc. you can get for each of these dolls - it must be like having a real baby for all you parents with girls!!!
