Right now i wouldnt pay a penny more in taxes. Dont get me wrong im totally sympathetic to those who need the drugs, and do agree that they should get them. I just think that they should look at other options first.
I do not agree with people having their nose/boobs/tummytuck done on the NHS because they lack confidence! And i dont agree that people should be getting IVF treatment on the NHS when people are not receiving life saving drugs as there is no money left.
Another thing that really annoys me is the amount of people who book an appointments - either with doctors or at a hospital and dont turn up - not even cancelling them! Therefore wasting docters time when someone else could have been seen. My mother works in a GP Practice and has atleast 10 people not turn up everyday. This does not include people who actually cancel th appointments. If i didnt turn up at a dentist i would be charged !10 for it!0 -
The problems we face today with drug rationing and the Postcode Lottery have their roots in the way the NHS was set up and lodged in the national psyche as 'the envy of the world.' The NHS as a health delivery system is a disaster; inefficient, poor value for money, and not responsive to the needs of its paying customers. It is in dire need of reform, but I doubt if that will ever be achieved as the problems are too great and some sections of society think the NHS should be preserved in stone rather than adapt to the needs of the 21st century. Paying more in taxes will not solve the problem. The extra cash will simply disappear into a black hole, like all the money Gordon Brown poured in.
All we Brits can do is accept the worst medical service in the EU and envy our friends in France, Germany etc. who receive first rate care, because after all, they paid for it. Oops. We paid too.0 -

I understand what you are saying but actually part of the blister packs had been cut to make the number of tablets up by the pharmacist, there were whole strips and a part one. If the blister packs are sealed completely and you can see that they are, it just seems such a waste - that was my point!:j Addicted to money saving0 -

If I'm wrong, I'm sure one of the pharmacist members will correct me;), but there are a lot of issues to consider about medications which prevent them from being re-issued. Apart from the obvious one of being intact, there is also no way of knowing how they have been stored and what they have been in contact with. An example - I am severely allergic to pet hair and might suffer a reaction if given packets that had been in a home where animals lived.
It is a shame that they cannot be reused in circumstances like yours, but most of the wastage could be avoided by patients not getting drugs they don't need.Cheers

There are loads of proffessions where you require 8years + training to get proffesional recognition, but luckily you live in a world oblivious to that fact.
And none of them get sued at the rate doctors do. And your spelling is not immaculate either. I am not oblivious to the fact, but no other jobs involve the stresses and lack of social life that you would have put up with as a doctor. My fiance is a doctor now and I know this.
Doctors already have keep up with CPD requirements - although not as strictly as dentists.
I believe junior doctors should get paid more than they do now, and that GPs and consultants deserve what they are paid.
You ofcourse are entitled to your opinion. Let's agree to disagree because nothing you have said has changed my opinion - And I dont think anything I said has changed yours.0 -
Unfortunately for me, I`m in the category of people that need expensive NHS drugs, and I`m now a `freeloader` as I no longer work. Airtrack12000 will be ok with me though as I do voluntary work 1 day a week. Find a cure for me and I`ll happily go back to work.
I`m glad that in Wales we get better access to new drugs and the Welsh Assembly have negotiated prices for drugs ie only paying if they are proven to work with widespread use.
Long live the NHS- brought to you by a Welsh man:rotfl:

The worst of which are antidepressants, they are normally drugs with no know use but they spent alot devloping them so they package them up and give them to the nutters to mess them up and increase the rate of suicide.
There is actually evidence that antidepressants reduce suicide if used correctly, excpet in children. Although they are often over-prescribed. I do find your terming people nutters offensive. Half of all women and a third of all men will be affected by depression at some point in their life and one in six is affected at any one time. Practically everyone will known someone or will have been depressed.
Please be a bit more sensitive with your comments.
