Buying a car in England \Scotland to save money?!?

I need to upgrade my car soon due to extending family. Some people have advised that I go across to England or Scotland and it will save me quite a bit. Anyone done this and if it really worth it? My concern would be that you can't easily bring it back if there are any issues? Looking a car a few years old. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Depends on the car. There are regional variances.

Check Autotrader for mainland prices of the car you want.

I guess the older the car, the riskier it is, in so much as you could get over there and the car be not as described.

My FIL wanted a Renault Modus and i was able to get him a year old one with 9k miles from Lookers in Liverpool for the same price as my local dealer was looking for a 2.5 year old one with 30K miles. We didnt even go to see the car, we just got a local car haulage company - Woodsides - here to pick it up and deliver it to our door. Cost £180 from memory. But then with a nine month old car from a main Renault dealer, there isnt so much risk

The other advantage of dealing with Lookers is that they own Charles Hurst group, so any problems can be sorted by Hursts.
