My son is divorced. His ex is still living in the marital home, but the mortgage is now paid off. She lives there with her husband, young son and daughter, the daughter is my sons daughter.

As the mortgage is paid off, how does my son stand? Can his name be removed from the house/deeds.

Sorry if I haven't explained things very well.
Happy to answer any questions.

Why does he want he want his name removed? Has he received a financial settlement from his ex to compensate him for his share of the house?

My guess is OP is worried the ex might steal the house and leave him with nothing

He wants to buy a house.Ex has a bad habit of taking loans out on the house, which could/would make it difficult for him to get a mortgage.
I think I'm right in saying this.

No way would the ex be able to pay him a share of the house.
Agreemeent made when they got divorced, was that the house can't be sold until the daughter reached 16.
Don't know how/if things will change now ex has a toddler (not my sons child).

An alert on the property and possibly even a restriction would be worth doing.
