I am just about to start working for the two biggest companies in the UK that will be selling and installing Solar only just launched today EVEREST AND ZANUSSI operating jointly to give a 20 year warranty etc etc and their whole system comes to £8995

As you later criticise (falsely) systems that are bigger than 4kWp, I'll assume that price of £9k is a 4kWp system. With lots of people paying low £5k's, or even £4.5k, it seems double glazing tactics will be needed to sell at those prices ......

and Everest has used all the top quality products with the very latest technology etc etc.

and as if by magic ...... out come the usual garbage. Best kit, latest tech. I bet the sales pitch has something about special panels for the UK that work on daylight not just sunlight ......... in the exact same way that all panels work already.

It does not pay to install over 4KW system with government FIT tariffs from the training I've received as the Government penalise you. That is unless your going to use all the electric that is produced.

From the training received ....... or you could just check the FiT rates and use a calculator:

    E/W system generating approx 750kWh/kWp:-

    1. 4kWp @ £5k = 3,000kWh. FiT + Export = 15.345p/kWh = £460 plus leccy savings estimate of £120 = £580.

    2. 5kWp @ £6k = 3,750kWh. FiT + Export = 14.135p/kWh = £530 plus leccy savings estimate of £130 = £660.

    1. £580/£5k = 11.6% gross ROI
    2. £660/£6k = 11% gross ROI

So 11.6% is ok, but 11% 'doesn't pay'? However,

    £580/£8,995 = 6.45% ........... is ok?

Gone this far, so might as well go a bit deeper. What is the net ROI if 6.45% is the gross ROI? Let's consider costs:-

As the capital is gone (not sitting safely in an ISA), then we have to account for that over a 20 year period, so 100%/20years = 5%.

    Replacement inverter (£1k) and minor maintenance (£10pa) = £1,200/20years/£5k install = 1.2%.

Cost of capital (lost interest) 1%pa.

    5%+1.2%+1% = 7.2% v's 6.45%.

Warning to all - regardless of system size - beware any company that says something/anything along these lines. It means that they can't be bothered with any system/install that is slightly out of the norm. This could be down to bad training, or poor business practices. Either way, why would you want to spend thousands with a company that doesn't explore all options.

Oh no.....don't say that, I better de-commission my WNW straight away....NOT

I'd advise you to actually do some homework before you start working for a company that's looking to charge DOUBLE the going rate for a quality installed system.
