Two questions about tax and working/benefits

Ok firstly I have never had a job for a period of a year where I have been paid and hit my tax allowance in simple terms i got a job id stick to it a couple months and then id be lazy and go on benefits.

Which got me to thinking am I owed the tax back from the periods where I have worked as in that year from working I would have never met the 10000 threshold for tax but maybe Im just thinking about it wrong as I still got money from the Govement in the form of JSA when I was out of work.

Anyway now I have a job which I love tho its from a Agency so who knows how long it will last hoping a long time Im paid weekly at a rate on £7.20 a hour 36 hours a week

36*£7.20 = £256.20 Both weeks I have paid tax of around £50 and N.I of around £12 leaving me around £196 for the working week

IS THIS RIGHT?????????

Went on the Govt website used the tax calculator thing and was said I should come out with more at the basic 20%

Im not sure if im being super taxed or if I have been super taxed with all my previous roles but where my tax could should be there was a BLANK last week then this week its 0T?

Anyway what should I do I handed in my previous P45 from my last job which ended in Feb to my Agency so Im guessing the Tax office is slow on the uptake?

Sorry if this is a struggle to read

Emergency tax. You'll need to speak with your employer...the agency? they'll refer you to your tax office.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Definitely not emergency tax. You are at present on the tax code which is used when you do not hand in a P45 and decline to make a new starter declaration which would allow your employer to use the emergency tax code currently 1060L. You do need to speak to your employer to see why they are not using the emergency tax code. If they are not prepared to use the emergency tax code then your best bet would be to contact HMRC to try to speed up their issuing of your tax code to your employer.

Don't forget to add in the JSA you've received as that's a taxable benefit. Also, in 2011, the personal tax allowance was only £7,474, increasing gradually to today's £10,000 odd.

If you have overpaid tax then you can claim the overpaid part back, cannot say exactly what your position is without seeing the figures. Would need total taxable income/benefits and total tax paid for each year.

Yea in my case i have never kept documents never stayed in one place long enough to get a P60.

Think claiming back any over payment from the last four years will be impossible or at the vry lest complicated.

I did hand in my last P45

No in these circumstances it is very easy you just throw yourself on the mercy of HMRC and trust whatever they say. I seem to remember that you have been advised something like this in a previous post or am I thinking of someone else.

Regarding the P45 this was for last year so should have triggered emergency tax; so as I said speak to payroll to see why you are not on it.

Well after a hour of being on hold I got throught but was cut off by an advisor who couldnt find the relevent information then another hour of holding!!!!

But yea on wrong tax code they said they would inform my agency and then it is upto them to put me on the right code? Also that HMRC would pay me back the last 4 weeks over payment of tax on my wage via my employer is this correct? How long Should I expect to be on the wrong tax code ie how long for HMRC to notify my agency?

Did get £125 back from last year should be in a cheque in 4 weeks so least there was a upside to two on the phone lol
