Saying I'm not single

Usual story regular poster new user name.
I've had a letter from Hmrc saying I'm not single as I have financial links to my ex, the father of my children which is true.
Circumstances are:
We split in 2012, I was working full time and made a single claim for tax credits.
I bought a house in 2013.
In 2014 I was made redundant and I had to go on income support.
Got this letter a couple of days ago and I'm sick with worry.
I have sent them: mortgage statement, council tax bill, gas and electricity bills, phone bills, income support letter all in my name as well as my bank statements for the time they have asked.
However I am worried they will still stop my claim as I added my ex onto my car insurance which I sent them a copy of and explained this was as my son is disabled and my ex uses the car when he has the children. My son requires oxygen cylinders wherever he goes.
Also I opened two online credit accounts in my ex name when I could not get credit and they are registered at my address. It was for beds for the children at the time.
My ex has no fixed address and stays between his mum, gran and friends houses, I asked him if he had absolutely anything he could give me to help but he said no he hasn't. He doesn't claim benefits or work so I get no money from him.
Will my claim be stopped? I will lose everything.

I'm sure you are a regular poster with (yet another) new name :rotfl:
Seriously - it was all going well till the last bit. You opened credit cards in your ex's name even though he has no fixed abode and no job!
You'll have to do better that that.0 -
No it wasn't credit cards it was catalogue accounts, and yes it was easy to open them without any income details it was only his name and dob needed. I was declined credit as when I initially was made redundant I fell behind on some payments and now have bad credit.0

My husband has several online accounts he doesn't know about...but they'e not 'credit' accounts. I just use them for buying the major household stuff.
....maybe I should tell him

Well where does he get his mail sent like bank accounts?
You will have to prove your ex lives elsewhere or they will think he lives with you0 -
I asked him for his driving licence or a copy of it but he said he lost it. He is not very cooperative. He had a bank account but when it went into overdraft it went to collections and was closed. He doesn't need one as I think he works casually but I can't prove this.
I called the helpline and the said to send what I had, which I did but I've read stories that they still close your claim anyway.0 -
Sounds like he's not being co-operative because he's been working "cash in hand" and doesn't want HMRC to find out0

They would have carried out credit checks on him just as they did with you.0 -
But what will happen if I can't get anything from him?
I supplied most of what they asked for and it's clear from my bank statements I maintain and pay for everything myself but I can't prove where he lives.0 -
how often does he visit your home?
it is possible they have also being watching your property...will they have seen him visit regularly, stay over etc?0 -

Rarely do HMRC do this.
This is quite a simple case - HMRC have got the data from Experian which shows the suspected partner obtaining credit at the OP's address. That is why she has received the letter.
Did your ex-partner know you had opened these accounts in his name?
