1st Birthday Gift for Niece - Help

My only niece will be a year old later this month and I'm having difficulty finding an appropriate gift(s) for her.
Having 2 boys myself I'm really struggling. Looking to spend upto approx. £60.
What do 1 year old girls like??????

Kids get so many presents nowadays and often don't play with them for long.

My son got Premium Bonds which I thought was different. I know the chances of winning the jackpot are slim (there is a thread regarding this) but ....

  • how about something that will last more than a couple of months - musical instruments for babies/toddlers will be used and enjoyed for a long time (and that doesn't mean a drum...!), or some books that her parents can read to her and then she can enjoy herself when a little older?

Or you could even put the money to her child trust fund account to build up for her 18th birthday.. She won't know you haven't bought her a present and she won't care.

We have some toys from our daughters first birthday still in the garage that she hasn't even played with yet! she is now 15 months and we will probably bring them out in a month or so. There were so many toys she just didn't know what to do with herself.

  • My grandaughter will be one this Sunday and we've bought her a Fisher Price Little People House http://www.gamesgadgetsuk.com/?prodcode=186 29.99. My mum is giving her the Little People farm, you can add to them with lots of Little People playthings and the house is age from 1-5 years so she should get plenty of use out of them. I can't wait to play with them myself!
  • My DS (4.5) had little people and played with them no end - they have now come out for DD (1) and son still plays with them with her. I would buy some little people and put the rest of the money her trust fund!

Cow wheelybug or a wooden doll's pram - the latter would double up as an extremely nice walker. These are what I've got in mind for my own DD for her first Xmas & birthday presents.

I'd go with the Fisher Price Little People too. DD got the train and a dolls house for Xmas, just after her first birthday and is still playing with them at 5.5+. We have house, train, fairground, farm plus some extra little sets. Desparate for space in the toy cupboard but they have been out every day for the last fortnight. My nephew has the zoo. Other favourite is a soft doll from toysRus for around £5. Both DD and my 1 year old neice love them. http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/BruHome/BruBabyToys/BruBabyToysPreSchool/BruBabyToysPreSchoolSoft/429198 (sorry hyper-link function not working for me right now)

Just wondering what you chose in the end, and how they were received.
