Advice please! Student starting job in Sept, but need a loan now

Hi,

I'd really appreciate any advice on this. I've just finished teacher training and have secured a job for September. I need to buy a car, so need to borrow about £2000 either with a loan or credit card. I have a bit of work over summer but nothing concrete, so technically unemployed until then. My bank say I won't be able to get a loan with them as I'd need to show a steady income over the last few months. I have had student loans and a bursary as my only income for the last 10 months. I'm due some inheritance money which I will use to pay off any debt, but won't be receiving this for quite some time. Is there a loan or a credit card out there that would provide me with this? I don't want to apply for anything until I've had advice as I wouldn't want to spoil my credit rating. Thanks in advance for any help!

No reputable lender will lend you money without an income to repay it.

Talk to a dealer... since you can show a contract of employment they should be able to sort something out.

Of course, all the best teachers commute by bicycle...

Can you get a graduate loan?

When I graduated 4 years ago, Lloyds TSB (as it was then) offered loans to graduates of up to (i think) £5k, if they could prove they had employment for later that year.
  • work for a couple of months and then buy a cheap car with the cash you have saved
GC Jan £431.490/£480.00  £48.51 under budget!
  • Thanks for your replies. I went to my bank for a graduate loan (hsbc) and they said I had to be earning now in order to qualify. But I'll check other banks - thank you!
Unfortunately with other outgoings I'll need to use any money made in the summer for that., rather than car buying.
I'd love to cycle but it would be over 20 mile a day! Haha!
