Real supply and demand in the property market today?

We often hear that the population is going up faster than new property is being built, therefore there is a supply deficient compared to demand, right?
Well you could say the same thing about Italy and Greece. There are more desperate illegal immigrants on overcrowded boats risking their lives to arrive with no money and are being added to the demand side of the housing equation? There is certainly more demand than supply with all these boat loads of immigrants arriving every week?
The point is, is does not matter how many people want to live in a certain property or area, all that matter is how many people can afford to live there!

sure but lots of poor people can and do live in expensive places
24% of London is social homes
Another 30% or so are private rentals, some of which get 100% of their rent paid for by the state.0 -
In my local area there is no supply, there is no demand... to all intents and purposes there is no property market,
I don't know how the estate agents are even managing to stay in business, I can only assume they're relying on their income from lettings.0 -
Yeah but imagine all those immigrants crossing the med to get to Europe could claim housing benefit and get to live in nice properties? This would make a false market and artificial high prices, that's exactly the situation in the UK.HTB = Help to Bubble.0

I don't think they're getting houses- tents if they're lucky, but it is southern Europe so it's nice and sunny, even at night.
What's with all the bold?0 -
I'm at a stage in my life where I would dearly love to live in the part of Africa that I visited as a child. I have such fond memories of the climate, the scenary . . . the wildlife.
If only it weren't for the local system. The absolute corruption of normality.
Hey ! If they all came over here . . . and we all went over there . . . It'd be just like swapping over or summat wouldn't it ?0
