Great find. A small house in Hampshire that costs £265,000, where a season ticket to your job in London costs a mere £4360 a year.

A piffling trifle. Stupid renters with their dreams of having children and somewhere to live.

Someone I know that's renting is paying more rent than a mortgage would be. They keep saying they want their own house but not prepared to go without anything. They want a house as good as the one they're renting, won't even consider getting one that needs doing up and still go on their holidays abroad. They expect to do all these things but moan they can't save for the deposit.

When I bought my house, I went without, bought second hand, no holidays and had two jobs, worked 9-5 and then behind the bar in a club 4 nights a week until 3.00 am. Interest rates were 15%.

Thank goodness they have you to look down on them.

And a two mile stroll to the station - a lovely walk on those cold and wet February evenings.:D

So add in another £1,500 for the station car park!

And check out the surrounding area on street view - doesn't exactly look like a nice area either!

To be honest there is probably better value in Dagenham.

The second house is similar to my first house in fact it would be more expensive as it's end of terrace I couldn't have afforded it. How does that compute with you as I had to move to that area ang commute in 70s it was all I could afford earning quite a bit more than average earnings.

No pleasing some people the second house is in a nice cul de sac. Canal on other side of road with fields the other side of canal. In the summer pleasant 15 min walk along towpath to station Waterloo 45mins. I was extremely happy to buy in that road when I bought my first home.

Sorry, I thought this was about an almost existential battle for shelter - obviously I was mistaken and its more about aesthetics.
