As this report has been floating about since 2014 I wonder why the other unionist parties didnt follow it up .
Is it because they are still encouraging grammar schools

Come on!!!
If offered a job where their Da worked, they would turn up on day one and never again:rotfl:
I am well passed school leaving now, but do a OCR type thing at a class. This is in a loyalist area, where they also had schemes for 16 years old's to improve their english maths etc, sent on training opportunities. This by the way is only last year. Far as I remember they got £35 a week for turning up. Monday to Friday and only half day the last day. Most came for the money, arriving late and not bothering actually doing much. A few did go on to get jobs. Out of a class of say 15 only 2 or 3 passed anything and that was just scraping passed.0 -

Looks like you didn't turn up for that apostrophe lesson, boy, and it's "past", not "passed".
We all know there are plenty of lazy blighters about, but I'm always impressed at how hard people work in labouring jobs for little reward.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

It wasn't me, it was my computer... honestly... :rotfl:
I'm more of a Maths person anyway. wasn't one for reading lots of books about imaginary characters when I was young(er).... Have always preferred the old maths and problem solving..0 -

There is an element of that too I suppose... there are a fair lot of lazy sods out there that want money for nothing...0 -
Yeah, nothing like a bourgeois sneer at the lower orders to start the day. Take a group of poorly motivated youngsters, whose former classmates have already got themselves jobs and are out working hard, and use them to damn an entire community.

I'll tell you how to improve education in Protestant, unionist and loyalist communities. Get them to loose the attitude of entitlement and get their asses into school....
Did it suggest in the report that the primary factor for poor education was truancy?warmhands.coldheart wrote: »
Long gone are the days when you walked out of school at 15 or 16 and walked into a job that your Da had got you in the company he worked for eg the mills or the shipyards... Neither interview nor qualifications were required in those days....
Uh huh. You're talking about an environment from 50 years ago.
I dont really think too many 16 year olds leaving school have an expectation that their da is going to get them a job in the shipyards?
Its actually quite amusing that your belief that protestants childrens views on employment are 50 years out of date, when your views on protestant children are 50 years out of date??warmhands.coldheart wrote: »
The world has moved on. The mills and the shipyards are gone. It's all about Global Companies, IT, Qualifications and the BEST person for the job ... a lot of the people in Northern Ireland especially from these communities are still stuck in their old ways with their old attitudes.
I think there are still lower class areas on both sides of the community where they believe their chances of getting into a job, let alone a job like you are describing are close to nil so why bother, rather than I "expect" to have a job when i leave school.
Thats what needs corrected, not what you think are "age old views" still existing.0 -

Keady’s St Patrick’s High named best secondary school in the UK!
The county Armagh school was the only one from the province nominated in the category.

They don't do academic selection at 11 ,they must be doing something right ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0
