Asda price guarantee

I tried to do an online shop at Sainsbury's but even a fortnightly shop was less than the £40 delivery minimum, at £29.85. Looked up similar products at Asda and Tesco, who have £25 minimums, and got prices of £34.18 from Asda and £31.47 from Tesco.

A lot of what I wanted to buy is the value brands, so Basics / Smartprice / Everyday Value. I initially thought I could just buy from Asda and claim the difference in price off my next shop, until I remembered this clause in their price guarantee T&Cs:

15.1.2. We do not compare own label products if there is a difference in size/volume/weight of more than 10%.

Looking back at my lists, there are lots of differences in the size/volume/weight between Basics and Smartprice, which exclude them from the price guarantee.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed this? :eek:

Sainsburys minimum isn't £40, its £25 the same as Asda and Tesco

There is a £25 minimum order value on any grocery order. Orders over £40 will be charged a delivery fee of between £1 and £6. Tesco is the similar on there price guarantee:
We do not compare products where there is a greater than 10% difference in size, weight or volume. Where the difference in size, weight or volume is less than 10% we will make a straight comparison so as not to favour one retailer over another.


I would also think about the quality though and bear in mind that Asda and Tesco will price match subs whereas Sainsburys don't so you could end up with better quality by going to Asda or Tesco as they will usually give you a larger size or a named brand for the same as you would pay for the basics range.

ASDA Ts&Cs say that the minimum order can be found on its website but I cannot find it.

When I used the service in the past there was a minimum order of £25 for an order paid for individually but £40 if using a Delivery Pass.

The following item says that there was a change in January. However, the comments indicate that the new £40 limit applies at certain times &/or from certain stores. It seems that the only way to find out is to log in and see what is offered.

Asda home delivery in my location is £40.00 minimum, however, when I have used the Click & Collect service, the minimum spend is £25.00.

I wonder how Asda decide which areas to charge £40 in. I can tell you I certainly don't live in Mayfair! My area has one of the highest areas of child and pensioner poverty in England. Shame on you Asda. I'll be moving to one of the other stores now, even though Asda's prices are cheaper for a lot of things, I just can't make the £40 mark and I'm dependant on deliveries. Yes, shame on you Asda.

I assume the charge relates to the cost of providing the service. Deliveries to a small radius in a densely populated area must cost a supermarket less than to customers scattered across a large sparsely populated area.

That just about describes my area. They should have no problem doing multiple drop-offs around here, well they don't as I see them doing it. Yes, please all feel free to join in with me saying it again, shame on you Asda!

ASDA's £40 minimum order with delivery pass was the reason I switched to Tesco with a £25 minimum.

I got a £30pa midweek pass. Now in the second year I got the same with £15 worth of Clubcard points earned in the first year.

For anyone who can take deliveries at unpopular times deliveries cost from £1 for single deliveries.

In certain areas it is trialling free deliveries Mon-Thur (£2 Fri-Sun) if a customer opts for a 4-hour slot. (It sends a text on the day advising which 1-hour slot within the chosen period the delivery is scheduled to be).

I wonder how long it will be before Tesco follows its rivals and increases the minimum order. It must be paying a heavy price in profits attempting to maintain market share.

Update: Not that long! On 8th July Tesco announced that from 23rd July orders under £40 will incur a £4 surcharge both for one off deliveries and with Delivery Saver - even for customers with pre-existing Delivery Saver contracts.

I only ever pay £1 for my Tesco and Asda without a delivery pass and they both have £25 minimum order.
