Best Price for Tea & Instant Coffee?

Not much help to the Op I'm afraid, but our local shop recently found some of this in the dark recesses of their stock room:
Obviously, they couldn't sell it but I blagged a packet as a curiosity.
Then, out in Ikea today, I spotted one of those one-cup metal tea brewing gismos for £1.30 and couldn't resist. Got home, and opened the "curiosity" packet, to find that it still looked and smelt like tea:
A quick kettle-boil later and it was, honestly, delicious - and free!!!
The only thing I can assume is that, seeing as they didn't put "best before" / "use by" dates on packets back then, the tea simply didn't know that it should be undrinkable by now0 -

And is that a 1960's cup you're using?
Mine are all chipped!
I did a post a few weeks ago, about polishing off a 15 year old Marks and Spencer christmas pudding. Lovely.0 -
Tesco have boxes of 240 Typhoo teabags for £2.50 at the moment. HTH0

Sadly they're not, but they're a pretty good style-alike. Came from Ikea at 35p each, in a choice of 4 or 5 very 60s colours.
I'd imagine that christmas pud would have matured to perfection by now0 -
I like Sainsbos or Tesco value tea.
Coffee wise i've recently tried the Colombian £1.99 instant coffee you get out of Lidl/Aldi tastes really good.PK! :money:0 -

On the basis that I ate the pudding a few weeks ago, I think that your word "matured", should have the letter "n" in there somewhere!
Made me smile!0 -
I get the 200g jars of Gran-A-Rom (well, something like that) instant coffee granules. Varying price, under £2. Not sure how much it is, but I walk to Lidl and driving to a supermarket for a specific "offer" would most likely cost me £2.40 in fuel, so I just chug along happily enough with the Lidl one.0

Self promotion !
Americians do not understand the British fascination of tea.
You only do tea in an iced version. Yuck, muck. The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.

How little I know.!!0 -
Personally I can't stand Typhoo. I guess it's not branded, but Lidl Knightsbridge tea bags make a good cuppa IMO £1.69 for 160 I think.
may I ask why they have to be branded? Can they just be put in a cannister?
and reduced to 84p for 160 next weekend (June 27/28 ) if you want to bulk buy and stock up.0 -

So currently the best prices I can find are for 240 bag boxes of PG Tips and Tetley which are around the £4 mark (PG Tips = £3.99 @ Poundstretcher & Tetley = £3.95 @ Iceland) which works out at around 1.5p a Tea Bag
Is there anywhere cheaper?
as for Coffee I can get 200g of Lyons or 200g of Nescafe International for £1.99 and £2.49 respectively
neither of those are my favorite instant coffee though... can I get anything nicer around the same price point?
Many thanks:beer:
If for work can you order the 2kg tins of coffee or the 1000 bag packs of tea from your stationery or catering supplier?0
