That is a complete overreaction.
If you're feeling unwell you should contact your GP. The Samaritans will always listen if you are in distress.0 -
And it needs saying to the self righteous on here, who chose not to read or at worse are selective, as I'm going to meet yet another recruiter who says why on earth are you bouncing from one job to the next??? we have a system that supports those that need it but I've yet to encounter it really
I'm through.
And before anyone starts this latest holiday is also 'unpaid'0 -

The agency I've registered with, I'm really starting to think either them or their clients don't have a scobie whilst I've never intentionally wanted to mess anyone around either and the cynic in me thinks this could effect any future claim to JSA - from an employer's prospective the temp turns up, leaves you in the lurch - then finds themselves dismissed?
ENTITLEMENT  NO
STITCHED UP YES
Thanks to Engineer Amy for your help, I really did appreciate it0 -
As a temp you aren't in a position to "Demand" anything. Even the use of the term suggests a mindset of entitlement.
"Demanding" anything within 45 hours of starting a job doesn't sound like a career enhancing move. If you can't commit to the assignment it would be better to pass on it and keep the agency, and prospective employers, on side.
If the agency gets the impression that you won't fulfil commitments they will almost certainly look elsewhere for people to fill vacancies.

Spell it out asap, e.g. Yes I can start monday but just to let you know I have a pre-existing medical appointment on the wednesday is that ok with you?
Springing it on them day one, may result in being recalled by the agency, I have sent people away on their first day temping before.0 -
I don't know why but the expression "If you don't want an honest answer, don't ask a question" springs to mind with the OP's reaction here.0

As a final update, I have been told agents do talk and fortunately I now have had the opportunity to meet someone with 30 odd years experience who explained in the best way this isn't the greatest idea in how to look serious, if the agent didn't know how unhappy I was well they will soon understand from someone else's view I hope.
Thanks to that person for calming me down.0 -

I did just that actually, they were ok with my taking the morning off as long as I could return after lunch but it's people jumping to conclusions...
But don't worry I'm now having to cancel the assignment altogether because I have 6 interviews and once again, in case you really didn't get it - it's unfair for both parties to work somewhere on the sympathy card!! oh, and cancelling any entitlement to benefit of course we all end up happy and I never have to be accused of asking the state for anything, happy days - I can't say anymore and neither do I want to, thanks.0
