SSE ....give me strength !!

I was that fed up with SSE's complete lack of urgency paying my FIT that I decided to vote with my feet and leave SSE earlier this year. I completed my gas and electric move to EDF and the FIT tariff move followed shortly after (SSE were even slow to respond to EDF's demands for transfer docs etc). So - I am now 4 months post move to EDF - I owe SSE £160 and refuse to pay them as they owe me £420 for FIT payments. They have said their 'new' payments system isn't working at all - this was promised to be completed by feb 2015 and was first implemented in late summer 2014. Can you believe that such a large company are unable to implement an IT system to sort this out ? They make millions of pounds in profits each year. I used to be a computer programmer for a high street bank. All you need to do is throw money (perhaps lots of it) and the problem is sorted. The more money - the quicker the result. Is anyone else tearing their hair out at the idiots ?

Basically you have rewarded them by doing that. Did you know that providers are not compensated from a central fund? Unbelievable as it may seem, they pay FITs out of their own pockets whether they supplied your power or not!

    Are you sure?

I was of the opinion that suppliers submit payment claims to OFGEM as payments under the FIT scheme are made from a central fund managed by OFGEM.

    FIT payment process

    Payments to generators who are registered on the Feed-in Tariff are managed by energy suppliers within a process called the levelisation process. This is how it works;

SupplierCo collects meter readings from generators
Once a quarter SupplierCo will request a meter reading from you. These are fixed calendar quarters, and are the same for all generators regardless of the date you registered for FIT. You can check these dates in the table below

SupplierCo submits payment claim to OFGEM
As payments under the Feed-in Tariff are made from a central fund managed by OFGEM, SupplierCo needs to submit a claim on behalf of our FIT generators to receive payments from the fund. This is done after all meter readings are received from generators, within 2 weeks for the end of the quarter

    OFGEM pays SupplierCo
Once all payment claims have been received, OFGEM invoices the energy suppliers for their contribution into the fund. Energy suppliers pay into the fund in proportion to the number of electricity customers that they have. Once these payments are received from the energy suppliers, OFGEM then pays each FIT licensee the payment amount they have claimed on behalf of their FIT generators. This is done around 6 weeks after the end of each quarter

    SupplierCo pays generators
Once SupplierCo receives payment from OFGEM SupplierCo then processes and pays the relevant amount to each FIT generator by bank transfer.

That's certainly not how Scottish Power operate !

I can please myself when I submit a claim. They respond to it (eventually !) with payment plus a reminder that I can make a new claim any time after 80 days from this claim. I submit another claim then.

When I started, payments were made every three months on the 'anniversary' (does the word 'quarterversary' exist ?) of my installation date (16th August). To make sure that I didn't miss out from their guestimates of March 31st readings, I've always submitted an extra reading then. For the first couple of years they accepted the extra readings and paid me for 6 weeks but have now moved to asking me to claim 90 days after the 31st March reading although I'm actually claiming on 1st April, 1st July, 1st Oct & 1st Jan.

That's not entirely correct. The big 6 pay FIT out of their own pockets upon a valid reading been provided. Any delays are down to poor processes and/or systems.

Levelisation provides the payment funding to the small Suppliers/FIT Licensees and also apportions FIT costs equally between the big 6 (based on grid supply etc).

Hardly! They pay the FIT out of their customer's pockets.
