You would need to look at the exact terms of the scheme but most there is absolutely no discretion as to if any payment is made or not.
In most cases however it is at the Trustees' discretion as to who the payment is made to irrespective of what any nomination form says. As per my example though, its fairly extreme circumstances where the Trustees decide to go against the nomination forms request.0
