Smelly Barbour Jacket - Suggestions Please
itsanne
Without thinking, my daughter wore her Barbour jacket to a barbecue / bonfire party and it absolutely stinks of smoke. I just stopped her putting it in the washing machine. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
If it makes a difference in what to do, the jacket is not 'mucky' but has been worn a lot and is in need of rewaxing (so it's not very waxy at present).

I'd probably spray the inside lightly with Febreze & hang it in the garage for a couple of weeks; it's amazing how many smells just wither & die with time & a bit of air circulating.Angie - GC Dec 25 £376.31/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

If you spray it with vodka it takes the smell away.0

I'd never heard that before! Do you mean just the lining or the outside too? Quite a lot of spray or just lightly?
I tried Febreeze (and hanging it outside for about three days) on the lining of a very nice second hand leather jacket OH was given, but when body heat warmed it the smell came back so it's never worn. I'll give the vodka idea a go on that too.. . .I did not speak out

Inside and outside. Hang it on the line to spray it and leave it for a while.
You can also wash barbours on cold if you have got one of the "washballs" like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Eco-Friendly-Anion-Molecules-Cleaning-Cleaner-Magic-Washing-Wash-Laundry-Ball-MM-/321758120314?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4aea47497a
(any brand will do, or just water if you havent got them)0 -

Roll around in the hay preferably in a horse stable .Stable lad optional .
Personally i never wash any of my Partridge waxes and if they smell its a spray with a drop of lavender oil in a water bottle and air as much as possible .0 -
Buy a charcoal insert intended for a kitchen extractor fan - like this for example - and seal it in a polythene bag with the coat. Leave for a few days and it should have absorbed some of the smell.
I've used this method for getting the smell of cigarette smoke out of clothes and out of books and have found it to work.0
