Need a large estate car for hauling some stuff,
was certain to get ~2006 avensis estate

but.. Spotted that Audi a6 ~2006 year is much better looking/well packed and even larger than Avensis

Not really much price difference between them, can get avensis for like 2k and a6 for like 3k

Have heard that lately all VAG group has become total unreliable crap , I'm sure I wouldn't have much problems with Avensis, but About the Audi i'm starting to worry that it might be sitting more in garage than on road and get hit with large repair bills everytime because it's in way different class.

Anyone know how reliable are they?

I would say that 33% difference (£1K) is quite a difference in price...

You need to look at service histories. Make sure they are up to date and compare mileage. The Audi is nice, but will most likely cost more to maintain.

than again you are buying a £35k car when it was new in audi's case for 3k ;) so not really THAT much difference when you plan to keep it for several years.

Anyway I realize that the audi won't be as unreliable as the french crap but It won't be as reliable as Japanese ,but not sure exactly how large is the gap so wanted to know from someone who has maybe owned one before.

I'd buy the avensis unless it has been used as a minicab (There is a good reason they get used as taxis, but that doesn't mean you should buy an ex-taxi)

How many Audi minicabs do you see?

A well-services car will be reliable regardless of make/model.

When you look at reliabilty factors, the most reliable car I ever owned was an ex-hire Citreon Xantia. It was reliable because I kept it serviced.

My current ride is a 2008 Berlingo diesel. Only issue I have had has been with the horn only working with the ignition key out. Qwuick clean of earth points soon fixed that.

As for the 2 cars you are comparing. At that age I would have expected the Audi to have suffered many of the electrical and mechanical issues already, so might not be the money pit that a newer one would be.

  • I liked the extra cylinder for power.
