How to get size 8 clothes (1970s size 8 that is)

For jeans, age 12 should do it. I look for age 13 ... but my issue is being petite as well as having no hips.
As a rule I've never bought petite clothes as the ranges are limited and the prices out of reach .... so I buy regular sized clothes and look like a bag lady, but at least it's comfortable. I don't worry what I look like, nobody's looking at me.0 -

Waking up to find I'm actually a size 16-18 sucks.
Well if it's any consolation I am a UK size 6 currently which by that maths means I am an old size 10. I also struggle with anorexia and am below a healthy weight and in the anorexia weight range at the moment due to struggling with things. I am not massively tall nor do I have a freakishly wide bone structure, but this is my dress size. I know of many others my weight and size who are in treatment and constantly have dodgy blood test results because their body is not working properly. So as much as size 16-18 old style may sound a bit large to you, if it means your body is functioning properly and you don't struggle with eating appropriately I would say be proud of your healthy body and ignore the numbers, what was healthy back then is not something I really know much about but do know everyone's body is different and health is far more important. I already have a size 4 friend (old style size 8?) who has been told she may not make the next 10 years of her life if she maintains the weight she is at.
OP, I know a few people have mentioned it but buying in garments to resize at a dry cleaners is one idea, another is to take some of the items which do still fit and try to get copies made of them by dry cleaners. The original items may need to be taken apart in order to get the new pattern but it can be done and would mean there is a master copy of a favourite but worn out item which could be replicated over again in different fabrics and very easily altered to feature different styles; eg a drawstring waist instead of a fitted waist, pockets where there were none or shorter capri leg length on trousers. It may not be the cheapest option but it could possibly give the most variety in options.0 -
I'm also a size 6, but used to buy size 8s in the late 90s/early 00s. I really struggle to find clothes, because although I am petite I am not petite enough for the ranges in Next, Dorothy Perkins etc. I have hips and a long body, though, so can't buy kids clothes.
If it weren't for Primark I would really struggle. I don't like shopping in their stores, but I do at least find nice things that fit me. In the summer they tend to do knee length dresses with belts that I find fit me well. Also ordinary t-shirts. And their jeans are as good as any others I have tried (usually about £11).
Sometimes New Look is okay, but I probably return more than I keep.
Banana Republic and Mango can be small fitting.
I used to order from La Redoute but then the sizes went weird and the prices went up. Haven't tried for years, though, but they used to do a catalogue.
I don't find it any fun being little. So many people say it must be great to be thin, but it's really not. A lot of clothes don't come in anything smaller than 8 - case in point, I just looked at La Redoute dresses and out of 1109, only 433 come in a 6. Some places like USC are even worse - 289 dresses in total, only 12 in a size 6.0
