Most weight loss comes from changes to your diet. Exercise is great for improving your overall fitness but for most people it isn't the magic key to losing weight. It sounds like you're already making lots of healthy choices. Maybe just vary it a bit and see how you get on.

I've been doing Slimming World for 11 months and have lost 3.5 stone but reached a bit of a plateau. I'm trying to cook new recipes and having different breakfasts, as other people have found this helpful in similar situations. Perhaps try some cereal a couple of times a week, rather than eggs. Worth a try but do measure how much you are using, it's surprising how much you can eat if you don't measure it.

I think that's what I'm going to do. Different breakfasts, different lunches and see what effect that has. There can't be much else to it. I know I'm not perfect and I do still like my treats (which i always count) but overall the food i eat is healthy and what comes recommended in mags etc.

Take a look at low carbing, it's the only thing I've ever done that has worked for losing weight. Up the fat, drop the carbs and off comes the weight and the inches, particularly from around the waist.

Sounds mad when you don't know anything about it, but I read Escape the Diet Trap by Dr John Briffa and it's totally changed my weight and body shape.

Although this article is about starvation mode it actually answers the question 'why aren't i losing weight' really well further down the article - http://www.aworkoutroutine.com/starvation-mode/
So what’s the moral of this story? Besides the fact that I’m an angel? It’s pretty simple…

If you’re not losing any weight over a significant period of time, it’s not because your calories are too low, or because you’re in starvation mode, or because muscle weighs more than fat, or because of carbs, fat, meal frequency, meal timing, food choices or any other crazy voodoo !!!!!!!!.

It’s because there is no deficit. Even if you think there is… there isn’t. If there was, you’d be losing weight.

Basically, you’re eating more calories than you think you are, burning less calories than you think you are, or both… and no deficit is present.

The simple absence of your required caloric deficit caused in these cases by an underestimated calorie intake, an overestimated activity level, or just some kind of miscalculation or mistake somewhere that has lead you to believe you’re “doing everything right” when in reality you are not. (Additional details here: Why Am I Not Losing Weight?)

How do I know this? How can I be so sure?

Because if you WERE doing everything right and you WERE in a deficit, you’d currently be losing weight and we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

That's a point on forgetting to count. Alcohol?

Touch the stuff about once or twice a year at best, usually some port at Christmas. Otherwise don't bother.

I've just started seriously losing again after a long plateau by having low/high days. I eat around 1700 3 days a week, 1200 2 days and 2200 2 days. It tricks the body after 2 lows to release some fat. 12lbs in 3 weeks to be exact. It also allows me to indulge Friday and Saturday nights. I do very low impact 1hr work outs 2 time a week and never eat back exercise calories.

Also eating less, not low, but less carbs helps and basically going for full fat rather than low fat food choices.

Shake things up abit, have a couple of high cal days and see if that prompts a kick start to loss.
    Good luck.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Thanks I appreciate that :) I think i've been scared of eating too much. A shake up is definitely needed though. Willing to give anything a try now!

I'm another who's had great success with Slimming World. It's a good focus but common sense really. Things I'd try changing about your typical day: keep bread/cereal stuff to an absolute minimum like one small portion of cereal (2 Weetabix) or 2 small slices of wholemeal or 2 Alpen Lights. Eat at least a third, better still more, of all your food as fruit and veg especially veg. Limit dairy to things like fat free yogurt and cottage cheese and don't overdo other cheeses, milk, butter. Go easy on all fats whether in meat or added in oil. Keep treats to a minimum like cakes, biscuits, sweets, chocolate etc.

I don't think it's about portion size as much as eating the right things. Try it.
