The one big issue with building more houses to help renters move into their own mortgaged property is that the greedy landlords are snapping-up new-builds as fast as they are built round my way.

They are even starting to go for tenants on benefits as their preffered tenants as they can charge the maximum capped rent as it is much higher than the actual private rental value.

why do LLs wait for expensive new builds when it's cheaper to buy already loved properties?

Absolutely, IMO they tend to be over priced, and the bedrooms tend to be too small. I wouldn't attempt to rent out anything that I wouldn't live in myself (I have lived in most of my investment properties at some stage).

My guess is that you're not entirely serious but if you have a genuine split where the Northern part of the UK is expecting ever more cash out of London there will come a point where London says, "No more!".

I personally think it would be an economic basket case, but perversely a political force.

The SNP narrative has switched since the indy ref to UK wide issues, yet they have no UK wide presence to back this narrative up. This leaves them with the only option of being a pest.

I merely suggest that there are other tactics they could employ longer term which build on this anti-Westminster sentiment.

Cos they can do deals with the developers to buy them in bulk - and they need less maintenance (well supposedly but given how many are shoddily built....) I presume?
