Giving competition prizes as presents

Forgot to say that I won't be shouting from the roof top that the pressies are freebies and will obviously give them out knowing that the receiver will appreciate.0

If someone won something and gave it to me for a present, I would be highly delighted ~ they are obviously thinking of you, knowing that that is what you want. How ungrateful.0

I too am on here to save money and like zpacey i enter competitions for things i can give as xmas presents and have specific family members in mind also i enter others just for fun can always sell on ebay and pay off my debts.
I told my sister that i had won an xmen book from citv asked her if nephew would like it or I would sell it. She was really please and SHE advised me to put it in loft for him ready for xmas..
Also won a set of headphones (really expensive) for computer, told my friend and she said she would buy them off me as her brother has moved to canada and they have a mic built in. I asked her if she would be offended if I gave them to her as a bday prezzie as didn't want to take money off of her and she was really pleased.
I see nothing wrong in it personally..

I'm not in the position yet where I have stuff to give away, but I do believe that it would depend on the prospective receiver.
My financially canny parents would be delighted that I hadn't wasted money. I imagine my best friend would probably be happy as long as I got her something out of my own pocket as well, albeit a small thing. And the assorted kiddies would not care a bit, as long as they get stuff!0 -
I dont see anything wrong with giving prizes as presents. Its money saving, I mean you can always give them a bit of something else if you feel guilty about it but really they shoudl be grateful for the present in the first place!
I have shared/given away a few of my prizes, for example the nappies I won recently I am giving to my sister who had a baby a few months ago - I dont have a baby so 500 nappies would be no good to me, saying that I dont enter comps where I wouldnt be able to make use of the prize whether it by keeping it or giving it to someone elseWeight Loss - 102lb0 -
I think as long as it is something they will like it's great.
For my birthday I received 2 prizes as gifts one was a book I had been wanting, I was delighted, my friend had spent time entering comps and when she had won something she knew I would like she had put it aside for me.
The other was a bath set, this was I was not so delighted with, the friend in question knows I have sensitive skin and thus could not use the set he had won in the work raffle. That said I have now put it aside to give to a family friend along with a glass necklace I brought for her.
It's the though that counts if they actually though of you when they entered or received it, and thus expect you to like it great, if not it's a bit tacky.Started comps 7th August 2007 total for 2007 £1890
had a break for a couple of months £835 / £2008 wins this month,

We do know that there is a discussion thread and these discussions will all be moved into there????? Where they will get lost and no one will be able to make any sense of them.
But anyways - I think it is perfectly acceptable to give a win as a present (I personally am trying to win xmas!!!) but yes I think it is the public knowledge of the win that was a bit offputting for your friend.
However if it was me I would have been grateful that I was thought of rather than the item have been sold and me bought a naff pressie!!!Jo x2007:£5181.09 2008: £6619.70 2009: £4284.49 2010: £5213.14 2011: £4980.62 2012: £3188.52

If it was a present that i really wanted, then i would have been really grateful to my friend for giving it to me, whether she had won it or bought it. at the end of the day the person who won the present could have easily sold it on ebay and made money out of it, but instead decided to give it to their friend. Shame on that person for being so ungrateful. If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A0

I won a Veuve Clicquot champagne picnic set which I would never use. My friend loves the stuff so I gave it to her as a birthday present. I would not normally buy her a present, just a card. She was chuffed to bits with it. The first thing I said when I gave it to her was "PLease don't thin I've spent loads of money on this cos I haven't" I would have hated for her to have the spent a fortune on my birthday.0

i would be just as happy receiving a present which was won in a comp as i would as someone buying me one.
They don't have to give me the expensive prize and the thought they would rather give it to me rather than selling it on would mean something in my eyes0
