I would suggest even if the deceased was domiciled in UK, any money the OP received would be nett of any IHT liabiltyif i am liable to pay tax

I read the OP correctly - I can't understand why others didn't! Therefore I didn't require clarification.I accept Middlers should have asked for more information, then so should you and others - as unless the full circumstances are known how can you or anybody else advise accurately?

What if the money ...say £100,000k was inherited from Canada? Would the taxman want inheritance or capital gains ...or both?0

You need to bear in mind that if you leave the money in Ireland you will owe UK tax on interest you receive.
If you are domiciled in Ireland too then you could deposit the inheritance offshore and pay no tax on the interest.0
