y have endowments over recent years failed,,they worked very well before,,same as a lot of investments,,in past did wwell now very poor,if the worked y change,were they chasing more money,or just plain bad investments,,these people have lost a lot of our money,,i now dont trust banks etc,,

After the downturn in the stockmarket at the beginning of 2000 ish, a number of with profits funds moved their assets out of shares into fixed interest gilts and corporate bonds which in turn have yielded low. The funds missed out on the recovery and as a consequence bonus rates were slashed to almost nothing on low growth assumption
Now the majority of with profit funds fester in a cupboard called Phoenix and endowments have become a dirty word. The projected returns of repaying your mortgage plus having a bit left over to find a mistress never bore fruit as those old bonuses of 10%pa were what the projections were based on.
Once something becomes dirty they become unpopular. Endowments have been and gone and next up was PPI.
Of course some with profit funds like Standard Life and Prudential kept running WP Funds and their bonuses aren't unreasonable, just not like they were before.0 -

intresting reading,i kept thinking because the market was recovering ,the endowment would recover,and always wondered y they were not,,maybe this is a wakeup call,we need,,better the old fasioned way,if u aint got the cash ,u cant have it,,maybe if we lived that way ,it would be better0
