Is money given for house-chores taxable?

Hi,
A friend of mine lives with her boyfriend's mother, and the mother gives my friend a small informal allowance for doing chores here and there. She's come across that any money received not purely as a gift is taxable, so now she is worrying about it. Legally, is this considered as taxable income?
Thanks

She's actually under a rent-a-room scheme with her boyfriend's mum. She said she gets very little, I think less than £100 a month.0

Does she have any other income?0
