Received an email today. Having been selected and using the words free to make it sound so appealing. Im wondering if I should opt for the metered export (if I can). I use no where near what I produce so my export is over 50%. I cant fit an immersun or similiar (new combi, before panels :wall:)
Can I request to move to metered export with a smart meter?

Has your supplier mentioned anything about export, or metered export?
My understanding is that whilst smart meters might be able to monitor export, there is no requirement for the company to do anything with the information.
If you find out anything, please post. I export about 70% of generation. It's not the end of the world, but would be nice to get paid for the 'missing' ~800kWh.
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

My Smart Maters (gas and electric) are to be installed on Monday by Siemens on behalf of OVO. I have opted for the Smart Gateway that talks to the Smart Meters and then plugs into my router.
Because information on the internet is so limited, I am unclear what is currently measured, however, I remain hopeful that data will be presented for the importation and exportation of electricity. I understand that real time and accurate data is read on line via MyOvo.
The roll-out of Smart Metering at Ovo and elsewhere has not had a good press so I am not expecting everything to work immaculately day one.
I do not think that there is any intention for Ovo to move away from deemed export. If that did occur, I might need to consider stopping my diversion. For now I gain from the status quo regarding deemed export since I am exporting very little.rosythfifer wrote: »Received an email today. I wouldn't count on the meters being able to measure export at all.
More precisely, the meters are perfectly capable of measuring export, but the software running on them often doesn't do so. That's because the people who are supplying the meter (the retail part of your energy supplier) don't care in the slightest what you export. It doesn't appear on their bills. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
