Joint account or mortgage aip first?

My fiancee and I will start looking for our first house next month. We are currently living with her parents and have separate bank accounts - mine with Nationwide and hers with HSBC.
My question is, if we apply for a joint bank account now (we are thinking of the Santander 123 account) and say we do NOT want an agreed overdraft will Santander still do a credit check that might affect our chances of getting a mortgage?
Also, if the credit check isn't a problem, will the fact that we have moved bank accounts just before applying for a mortgage be a problem?
If it makes any difference we are thinking of applying for the mortgage with Nationwide.
Thanks for any advice.

Applying for anything which involves a credit search close to applying for a mortgage is going to do no good and may be harmful if the rest of your case isn't great to start with.
