I'd say no. You can eat for £1 a day. If you can survive without agreeing to more debt, then you should give it a go. Pop in to or phone the C/Tax offices and tell them you'll pay them on Friday.

When you say you have no food in at all, do you mean absolutely nothing? If you have some random odd ingredients then post your list on Old Style boards and tell them your weekly budget... they'll turn something out of nothing lol.
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

I agree with Oliveoyl here. Avoid the OD if you can. Plod on until Friday it's not that long. Good Luck

  • I wouldn't go for the OD and I'm glad you got your cash sorted.

While your mum is happy to help I would say try and last on the £5. It's surprising how you can eat well on very will money. It's a good thing to learn how to do and now is a good a time as any.

Maybe your mum won't be there to help you out all the time.

    Good luck.
  • Will the council let you have more time to pay the council tax? Or are they insisting on having it right away. Might be worth trying to negotiate a bit more time to pay it.

With regard to food ,what about beans on toast or baked potato with melted cheese for tea? Both dirt cheap. Or pasta with a tomato sauce (made with a value tin of tomatoes, just add a sprinkle of mixed herbs, a bit of olive oil, and cook it down a bit). That's what we eat when we are skint.

why are you giving your money to your BF to waste on sandwiches?

Are you seriously borrowing off someone else so that he can have what he wants for lunch
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...

When I lived iN New York City, (those were the days) I once had $10 to last me 7 days. I bought a big pack of potatoes - they fill you up and you can cook them in different ways. I also bought cheap bread, jam and bananas. Try the reduced section in supermarkets, including fruit and veg, make a big pan of stew using the ingredients you do have in?

I'm sorry, and this will probably sound harsh, but let him go hungry! If he doesn't have any breakfast & subsequently needs to fill up at lunch, then that's his problem, not yours.

Look on the Old Style board for really cheap & interesting ideas for feeding on a limited budget.
  • hi guys, no it doesnt sound harsh at all, me and my son eat dinner for about 70p a day!!! trouble is he thinks its all my fault that we are in this debt so why shud he have to suffer?! i know where you are all coming from, but obviously he doesnt! but ur all right, im gonna cut right back on his money, its costing 60 quid a month for crying out loud!!
