Re-image using a standard Windows disk (not a recovery disk) is always one way to clear this type of problem

(Recovery disks include all the bloatware that PC vendors are paid to include on their systems - there are always better and free alternatives)

Or you can install Glary Utilities (yes, Glary, not Gary). That's the best all-in-one system cleanup tool I've ever used. And Free.

Still waiting for the SATA cable, in the meantime, I ordered a further 2 x 1gb of ram, checked the memory type, ran a scan with Crucial to check the type ?

Ordered the ram which came today, there are 4 slots, the present sticks were in slot 1 x 3, so tried fitting the ram into 2 and 4, but the computer wouldn't have it, switched it on, four loud beeps, fan running and nothing starting, so switched it off, careful to touch case etc with no static, changed the original ram into 1&2 and put the new ram into 3&4 to make it pairs ? Same beeping and not switching on !

Stopped it again, removed all the ram and set it back to how it was, all working normally.

Fortunately the scrap man arrives on Saturday !!!!

    The original 2 x 1GB sticks were NANYA 2RX8 PC2 5300U - 555 - 12 - E1.667

The additional sticks are HYNIX 1GB DD2 - 667 DIMM with a further sticker IN2Ti GNWKEX

Pairs are in matching colours. From whence did you obtain your RAM? How much did you pay? Which Motherboard version your PC? G33M0*?

    Matching RAM here

    You may find it cheaper.

No chance of returning other RAM modules?

Hi, I bought it from EBAY, they were £6.50p, lots and lots of sellers all the same price, the Motherboard is DG33MO3, the other numbers are SE 0709 I ran a check on Crucial so I could order the correct Ram, but seems not ! The existing ram are both blue and the new Ram are both green.

I thought as long as both Ram the existing and the new were the same spec, they would be ok, didn't realise the make or whatever it is has an effect ?

Always good to ask the seller if they are likely compatible. Makes the returning all the easier. Have you updated the BIOS?

Not yet, I was waiting for the Sata cable, I took the side off today to add the Ram and gave everything a Hoover out, once I get the cable I will update and try the change or addition of the SSD, I took photos today of the Sata connections, there is one in use for the HDD and one for the DVD/R there appear to be two spare, but the cable seems a thin type of cable, not what I was expecting to see ?

I installed an SSD in my Dell Inspiron 530 a month ago, the results are amazing ! my windows experience went from 5.9 (caused by Hard disk) to 6.5 !
The slowest peripheral now is the graphics card. In fact the CPU and RAM are at 7.1, the SSD is 7.4 ! The PC now feels as fast as the i7 i use at my workplace.

I too did not have a spare SATA so I used the one connected to the DVD drive, worked well.
